About Nscale
Nscale is the GPU cloud engineered for AI. We provide cost-effective, high-performance infrastructure for AI start-ups and large enterprise customers. Nscale enables AI-focused companies to achieve superior results by reducing the complexity of AI development. Our GPU cloud bolsters technical capabilities and directly supports strategic business outcomes, including cost management, rapid innovation, and environmental responsibility.
Our Design & Engineering team owns the technical standards that every datacenter project is built on, from Basis of Design documents through equipment catalogs and scopes of work. As Nscale scales one of the most ambitious AI datacenter programs in the world, this team is the backbone that keeps design decisions consistent, current, and usable across every region.
We thrive on a culture of relentless innovation, ownership, and accountability, where every team member takes pride in their work and drives it with excellence and urgency. As an Nscaler, you'll build trust through openness and transparency, where everyone is inspired to do their best work. If you join our team, you'll be contributing to building the technology that powers the future.
About The Role
We're looking for a Principal Technical Program Manager to own the program that keeps Nscale's design record aligned across every function that depends on it, including engineering, cost and schedule project controls, supply chain, construction, and operations.
- You'll own the full catalog of Basis of Design documents, Scopes of Work, equipment catalogs, and Requirements evaluations across Nscale's global portfolio.
- When a regional team starts a new project, they'll start from your catalog. When an engineer proposes a design change, you'll run the cross-functional review that gets it vetted, approved, and propagated.
- This is a program management role rather than a design authoring role. You'll need enough technical fluency to hold credible conversations with discipline engineers, paired with strong program discipline, stakeholder management, and structured decision-making.
- You'll treat cost per MW and schedule duration as first-class program inputs, not background context.
- This role starts as an individual contributor, with the expectation that you'll build a small team and/or manage AI-assisted and contract resources as the catalog and program demand grow.
What You'll be Doing
- Own the program that maintains and version-controls Nscale's full library of Basis of Design documents across all datacenter typologies, coordinating discipline engineers as content authors and reviewers.
- Manage the library of Scopes of Work covering all major design disciplines, project types, and delivery strategies, driving them to a level of precision that supports accurate fee proposals and contract execution.
- Own the change management program for all BoDs, SOWs, equipment catalogs, and design standards, from change request through discipline review, cost and schedule assessment, approval, versioning, and distribution.
- Own the program that maintains approved equipment lists tied to each BoD, partnering with supply chain and procurement to validate availability, lead times, pricing, and vendor performance.
- Own Nscale's Requirements evaluation framework, the structured technical assessment used to evaluate candidate colocation and leased datacenter facilities against Nscale's design standards.
- Build and deliver structured "101" education programs on Nscale's design standards for internal teams, A/E partners, and external audiences.
- Serve as the single point of coordination between design and the functions that consume design output, including cost and schedule project controls, supply chain, construction, operations, and Finance.
- Identify and deploy AI tools and contract resources to scale document production, maintenance, and QA without proportional headcount growth.
About You
- 5+ years of experience in technical program management, project management, engineering, or design management within datacenters, mission-critical infrastructure, industrial facilities, or related capital-intensive construction.
- Broad multi-discipline technical fluency across mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, and architectural systems, sufficient to review BoD content and hold credible conversations with discipline experts.
- Demonstrated experience managing technical documentation programs such as Basis of Design documents, technical specifications, scopes of work, or equivalent design standards libraries.
- Proven ability to drive alignment across functions that do not report to you, including engineering, cost and schedule project controls, supply chain, construction, and operations.
- Strong process orientation, with experience designing and managing document control, change management, or configuration management workflows in a technical environment.
- Working knowledge of cost/MW benchmarks and schedule duration assumptions for datacenter or mission-critical infrastructure design and construction.
- Excellent technical writing and editing skills, with the ability to turn complex engineering intent into clear, unambiguous written standards.
- Comfortable working with AI tools, document automation platforms, and digital collaboration environments.
Nice to Have
- Direct experience with datacenter design, hyperscale AI infrastructure, colocation facilities, or power generation infrastructure.
- Experience with colocation or leased facility evaluation frameworks, including technical due diligence, gap analysis, or cost-to-conform assessments.
- Familiarity with BIM standards, design technology workflows, and how BoD content integrates with model-based design environments.
- Experience with modular or prefabricated infrastructure design and the documentation requirements those delivery strategies create.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license, Architectural license, or PMP a plus, though none are required.
Why this role matters
Nscale's regional design teams need a centralized, authoritative catalog of BoDs and SOWs to work from, without one, every project reinvents the wheel at the cost of speed, consistency, and quality. Design standards evolve constantly, and the equipment lists, cost/MW assumptions, and schedule durations embedded in them directly affect supply chain, construction, and financial planning. This role builds and owns that alignment layer.
As Nscale's portfolio grows, this program becomes the connective tissue between design strategy, project controls, supply chain, construction delivery, and operations. The person who builds it will have shaped how one of the most ambitious AI datacenter programs in the world makes, records, and communicates its design decisions.
