About the Team:
Grindr is an AI-native platform powering how millions of gay people connect globally. With 15M+ monthly users, 130B+ annual messages, and a team of fewer than 200, we move fast, stay lean, and tackle technical problems at a scale few companies ever see.
Grindr Health is the company’s first major expansion of the Global Gayborhood vision - bringing health, care, and wellbeing into the same platform where millions of gay and queer people already show up every day. Through Woodwork, Grindr’s telehealth and pharmacy platform, and a growing portfolio of health initiatives, the team is building something that doesn’t exist anywhere else: a health experience designed from the ground up for the LGBTQ+ community. The Senior Counsel, Grindr Health will be a founding legal voice for this business - owning the regulatory and compliance infrastructure that makes it possible to move fast, expand into new care modalities, and protect the community we serve. This is a rare opportunity to build consequential legal work at the intersection of digital health, sensitive data, and one of the most meaningful missions in tech.
At Grindr, we operate in Grindr Mode. Moderately hardcore day to day, truly hardcore when it counts. It’s about doing great work without burning out. Outcomes over outputs. Smart, driven people who raise your bar, with room to live full lives.
This is a hybrid role based in our SF, LA, or NYC office and will require you to be in person Tuesdays and Thursdays.
About the Job:
- Serve as Grindr’s lead healthcare regulatory counsel for Grindr Health, owning the regulatory and compliance framework that enables the business to expand its care delivery model across telehealth, pharmacy, and adjacent health services
- Advise on the full spectrum of telehealth regulatory requirements - CPOM, multi-state licensing, prescribing restrictions, anti-kickback, and state-by-state compliance - setting standards and building scalable guidance that the business can act on in real time
- Define and operationalize Grindr’s approach to health and sensitive data, including HIPAA/HITECH compliance infrastructure, state consumer health privacy frameworks, and the unique considerations that arise when health data intersects with an LGBTQ+ platform
- Partner with Product, Marketing, Privacy, and Operations to provide practical, real-time guidance on product development, marketing strategy, user acquisition, and consumer consent - ensuring the business moves fast without creating regulatory exposure
- Advise on business model evolution including operational structure, vendor and partner relationships, affiliated pharmacy arrangements, MSO governance, and expansion into new care modalities - acting as a strategic partner, not just a risk filter
- Continue strengthening the compliance infrastructure for Grindr Health: HIPAA program, data governance practices, BAAs, policy templates, training, and incident response protocols that scale as the business grows
- Manage outside counsel on specialized healthcare regulatory matters and serve as the internal authority who knows when to escalate, when to own, and how to get the business to a clear answer fast
Role Requirements:
- 10+ years of legal experience with healthcare regulatory focus, including meaningful experience advising digital health or telehealth companies in-house
- Deep expertise in telehealth regulatory compliance, including CPOM, multi-state licensing, prescribing restrictions, and anti-kickback requirements with the ability to translate complex, evolving requirements into clear guidance under time pressure
- Strong working knowledge of HIPAA/HITECH and the state consumer health privacy landscape, including direct experience advising on sensitive data categories such as LGBTQ+, HIV/STI, and reproductive health data
- Demonstrated experience building compliance infrastructure: HIPAA programs, data governance frameworks, BAAs, vendor contracts, and policy templates that hold up at scale
- Experience advising on data broker registration, data sales restrictions, and the boundaries of permissible data monetization where health data intersects with advertising and third-party partnerships
- Experience advising on or structuring affiliated pharmacy arrangements and PC governance, including MSO structures, beneficial ownership, and multi-state compliance obligations
- Track record of setting policy, owning risk decisions, and functioning as the recognized legal authority on regulatory questions in a fast-moving environment - not escalating to outside counsel for answers you should own
- JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. state
You May Thrive in this Role if You:
- Have worked at or advised a consumer technology company operating at the intersection of health and digital platforms, and can navigate the reputational and regulatory stakes that come with serving a community as vulnerable and visible as ours
- Have a track record of building legal tools, templates, and playbooks that make the whole organization more capable - not just protecting against risk but enabling speed
- Have exposure to 340B program requirements sufficient to engage and manage outside counsel on transactional or audit-related matters
- Background in consumer-facing health product development, including review of marketing copy and consumer consent frameworks
- Are AI-native or rapidly becoming so - you actively use AI tools in your workflow and are always looking for new ways to leverage them
