COMPANY OVERVIEW
TransGrid Energy is a renewable energy company focused on investing, developing, owning and operating utility-scale battery energy storage systems and PV projects. TransGrid has a robust pipeline of projects under construction and in late-stage development, and the Company is actively expanding its energy asset portfolio across the United States.
As an affiliate company of Hanwha Group, a FORTUNE Global 500 company driven by a firm commitment to advancing the clean energy future, TransGrid Energy is striving to shape the renewable energy landscape by providing sustainable and reliable power solutions tailored to meet the energy needs of today and tomorrow.
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are seeking a Senior Director, Energy Optimization & Orchestration Solutions to lead the development of a next-generation energy optimization platform that combines advanced optimization, agentic AI, power systems, controls, distributed energy resources, and data center operations.
The mission of this role is to transform energy infrastructure from a static constraint into a dynamically managed capacity resource. The first major application will focus on grid interactive – flexible data center energy optimization—unlocking additional usable MW from existing power and cooling infrastructure while maintaining reliability, resiliency, and operational safety.
As AI infrastructure becomes increasingly power constrained, data centers can no longer manage power, cooling, compute, storage, and grid interaction independently. These systems must be orchestrated as one integrated operating environment. The Senior Director will lead the development of the technology, architecture, and organization required to make that possible.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The central objective of this role is to maximize productive compute capacity from every available MW.
The platform should continuously determine how much additional compute load a data center can safely support based on real-time electrical capacity, cooling availability, battery state of charge, utility constraints, equipment redundancy, weather, workload flexibility, and operating requirements.
Rather than treating installed utility capacity as a fixed ceiling, the solution will identify and orchestrate available flexibility across BESS, distributed generation, cooling systems, renewable resources, compute loads, and grid interaction. This can enable additional GPU and IT capacity, improve infrastructure utilization, defer utility upgrades, reduce peak demand, and create new energy and grid-service value.
The ultimate objective is to provide operators with a real-time answer to a critical question:
How many additional MW of productive compute can I safely support right now, for how long, and under what constraints?
Energy Optimization & Agentic Operations
The Senior Director will lead the architecture and development of an optimization platform combining mathematical optimization, Model Predictive Control, forecasting, digital twins, risk-aware dispatch, event-driven reoptimization, AI-assisted decision making, and agentic operating workflows.
A major focus will be the use of agentic AI for energy operations. Specialized agents may monitor power capacity, thermal capacity, BESS operation, weather, energy markets, compute flexibility, equipment health, and reliability. These agents will work through a common orchestration layer to recommend and eventually execute coordinated operating decisions.
Work across electrical, mechanical, controls, software, and compute infrastructure teams to establish a real-time Available Capacity / Unlockable MW capability and support scenario analysis such as, “What happens if we add another 2 MW of GPU load?”
Platform, Controls & Product Development
The solution must connect optimization intelligence to real operating systems, including SCADA, EPMS, BMS, PLC/DDC controls, BESS EMS, utility systems, and compute orchestration platforms.
Be responsible for turning this technology into a repeatable commercial solution, not a series of one-off engineering projects. Working with product, business development, sales, operations, and customers, this leader will define product architecture, pilot programs, deployment models, performance KPIs, managed-service offerings, and commercialization strategy.
Success will be measured through outcomes including incremental MW unlocked, additional GPU/IT capacity enabled, infrastructure utilization, deferred capital and utility upgrades, PUE improvement, energy cost reduction, BESS value, and grid-service revenue.
The primary measure of success is not simply energy savings. It is additional productive capacity and economic value created from the same infrastructure.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will bring 15+ years of relevant experience, including significant leadership responsibility, and strong expertise in optimization, controls, power systems, or energy management. Experience applying optimization to physical assets is essential.
Preferred experience includes BESS, EMS/DERMS/VPP, microgrids, SCADA/EPMS/BMS, data centers, GPU infrastructure, energy markets, digital twins, cloud/edge software, and agentic AI.
The successful candidate must be able to bridge physical infrastructure, software, optimization, AI, and business value and translate advanced technology into deployable, scalable products.
WORK AUTHORIZATION
The ideal candidate for this role will have authorization to work in the US prior to joining TransGrid Energy LLC. The Company will not sponsor or offer assistance with the sponsorship for work authorization in the United States.
DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION
TransGrid Energy believes that diversity and inclusion are vital to our success. We believe that by embracing different ideas and approaches, we enhance our ability to deliver the best results for our employees, our environment, and ultimately our business partners and customers.
