Revolution Medicines is a late-stage clinical oncology company developing novel targeted therapies for patients with RAS-addicted cancers. The company’s R&D pipeline comprises RAS(ON) inhibitors designed to suppress diverse oncogenic variants of RAS proteins. The company’s RAS(ON) inhibitors daraxonrasib (RMC-6236), a RAS(ON) multi-selective inhibitor; elironrasib (RMC-6291), a RAS(ON) G12C-selective inhibitor; zoldonrasib (RMC-9805), a RAS(ON) G12D-selective inhibitor; and RMC-5127, a RAS(ON) G12V-selective inhibitor, are currently in clinical development. As a new member of the Revolution Medicines team, you will join other outstanding professionals in a tireless commitment to patients with cancers harboring mutations in the RAS signaling pathway.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Head of Corporate Development, The VP, Head of Search & Evaluation is a senior leader within the Corporate Development organization responsible for setting the strategy for, building the organization around, and leading the identification, assessment, and advancement of external innovation opportunities that support Revolution Medicines' portfolio strategy and long-term growth objectives.

Working in close partnership with leaders across Research, Development, Commercial, Corporate Strategy, Portfolio Management, and Executive Management, this individual will lead the company's search and evaluation activities across discovery- and clinical-stage opportunities. The role is accountable for developing and maintaining a robust pipeline of external opportunities, driving rigorous opportunity assessments, shaping strategic recommendations that inform portfolio and partnering decisions, and building a high-performing Search & Evaluation team with the capabilities and leadership depth to support the company's growth.

The successful candidate will combine deep scientific and business acumen with exceptional organizational leadership, strategic judgment, and executive communication skills. This individual will serve as a key connector across the organization and a senior external-facing leader, ensuring that external innovation efforts are aligned with corporate strategy, therapeutic area priorities, and emerging opportunities in precision oncology and related fields. They will create an environment in which talented team members can exercise judgment, grow as leaders, and independently drive high-quality search and evaluation work at scale.

Responsibilities

External Innovation Strategy and Opportunity Identification

  • Set the strategic direction for the company's search and evaluation of external innovation in partnership with senior cross-functional and executive stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute search strategies that align with Revolution Medicines' research, development, and commercial priorities.
  • Oversee the full portfolio of discovery- and clinical-stage search and evaluation activities, setting priorities and deploying team resources to maintain a robust pipeline of external opportunities aligned with portfolio priorities.
  • Build an external sourcing engine and lead proactive opportunity identification through engagement with biotechnology companies, academic institutions, investors, entrepreneurs, and other innovation ecosystems, while enabling team members to develop and own high-value external relationships.
  • Partner with Portfolio Management, Disease Strategy, Research, and Development leaders to identify areas where external innovation can create strategic value and enhance portfolio competitiveness.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of relevant scientific, clinical, and competitive landscapes to identify emerging opportunities and trends.

Opportunity Assessment and Diligence Leadership

  • Provide leadership and oversight for cross-functional diligence and opportunity assessments, ensuring teams integrate scientific, clinical, commercial, strategic, operational, and financial perspectives into clear executive recommendations.
  • Establish and continuously raise the bar for evaluation frameworks, decision criteria, and diligence standards that enable the team to deliver consistent, rigorous, and efficient assessments.
  • Mobilize and guide cross-functional diligence teams across Research, Clinical Development, Regulatory, Commercial, Finance, Intellectual Property, Legal, and other functions, while empowering Search & Evaluation leaders to independently drive individual opportunities.
  • Ensure key risks, opportunities, and strategic considerations are thoroughly evaluated and clearly communicated to decision-makers.
  • Develop balanced recommendations regarding prioritization, resource allocation, and partnership strategy.

Portfolio and Governance Leadership

  • Establish and maintain scalable frameworks, operating rhythms, and governance for opportunity evaluation, diligence, prioritization, resource allocation, and decision-making.
  • Provide portfolio-level oversight of opportunities moving through evaluation and governance processes, ensuring efficient review, transparency, organizational alignment, and clear accountability across the team.
  • Prepare and present, and coach the team to prepare and present, opportunity assessments, landscape analyses, strategic recommendations, and diligence findings to senior leadership, governance committees, and other executive audiences.
  • Partner with Portfolio Management, Corporate Development leadership, and executive stakeholders to shape external innovation priorities as corporate strategy and portfolio needs evolve.
  • Support portfolio planning efforts through identification and assessment of external opportunities that address strategic gaps or accelerate growth objectives.

Partnership with Transactions & Partnering

  • Partner closely with the Head of Transactions & Partnering and their organization to advance prioritized opportunities through transaction execution and negotiation.
  • Ensure key diligence findings, strategic considerations, and identified risks are effectively incorporated into transaction strategy and deal structuring.
  • Guide negotiation preparation and executive decision-making by ensuring that scientific, clinical, commercial, and strategic context from the Search & Evaluation team is translated into clear deal priorities and trade-offs.
  • Facilitate seamless transition of opportunities from evaluation through transaction execution.

Team and Organizational Leadership

  • Build, lead, and scale a high-performing Search & Evaluation organization with the scientific breadth, business judgment, and leadership capability to support the company's evolving business development and portfolio objectives.

  • Recruit, develop, coach, and retain exceptional talent; establish clear roles, expectations, and career paths; and create leadership depth within the function.

  • Create a culture of scientific rigor, strategic thinking, ownership, collaboration, healthy debate, and accountability, with high standards for both individual performance and team outcomes.

  • Develop and empower team members to independently lead search strategies, external relationships, opportunity assessments, cross-functional diligence, and executive recommendations, while providing appropriate coaching and escalation support.

  • Allocate resources and priorities across the Search & Evaluation portfolio, balancing near-term transaction needs with proactive search, capability building, and longer-term strategic opportunities.

  • Build scalable processes, tools, knowledge systems, and best practices that increase the team's effectiveness, consistency, speed, and organizational impact as the company grows.

  • Partner with Corporate Development leadership to shape the broader organization, including talent strategy, ways of working, operating model, and cross-functional engagement.

External Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain senior-level relationships across the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, academic, investment, and entrepreneurial communities to advance the company's partnering objectives and long-term growth strategy.
  • Represent Revolution Medicines as a senior external-facing leader at scientific meetings, partnering conferences, investor events, and other forums.
  • Cultivate a broad and durable network of external relationships that supports opportunity sourcing, intelligence gathering, strategic collaboration, and the team's access to high-quality innovation.

Required Skills, Experience and Education:

  • Advanced scientific degree (PhD, MD, PharmD, or equivalent) in a relevant life sciences discipline strongly preferred; MBA or other business training is a plus.
  • 15+ years of experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, business development, corporate strategy, research, venture investing, consulting, or related disciplines, with increasing scope and leadership responsibility.
  • Significant experience leading the evaluation of external innovation opportunities across discovery and clinical-stage development and translating those assessments into portfolio and business decisions.
  • Deep understanding of oncology drug development, precision medicine, translational science, and the biopharmaceutical development process.
  • Demonstrated track record of building, leading, developing, and retaining high-performing teams, including developing leaders and creating organizational capability beyond the individual leader.
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex cross-functional diligence efforts and developing recommendations for executive leadership and governance bodies.
  • Strong strategic thinking and enterprise judgment, with the ability to connect scientific innovation to portfolio strategy, capital allocation, and business objectives.
  • Proven ability to lead through both direct authority and influence across highly matrixed organizations and multiple organizational levels.
  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and executive influencing skills, including credibility with senior executive and board-level audiences.
  • Proven ability to synthesize complex scientific, clinical, commercial, and financial information into actionable recommendations and to coach others to do the same.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in precision oncology, targeted therapeutics, or related therapeutic areas.
  • Senior leadership experience within business development, search and evaluation, corporate strategy, portfolio strategy, or external innovation functions.
  • Experience working in both large pharmaceutical and biotechnology environments.
  • Established network across biotechnology, pharmaceutical, venture capital, academic, and entrepreneurial communities.
  • Demonstrated experience building or scaling search and evaluation capabilities, teams, and operating models within a growing organization.
  • Demonstrated success shaping portfolio strategy and external innovation priorities at the enterprise level.

The base pay salary range for this full-time position for candidates working onsite at our headquarters in Redwood City, CA is listed below. The range displayed on each job posting is intended to be the base pay salary range for an individual working onsite in Redwood City and will be adjusted for the local market a candidate is based in. Our base pay salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Individual base pay salary is determined by multiple factors, including job-related skills, experience, market dynamics, and relevant education or training.

Base Pay Salary Range

$294,000—$367,000 USD
